
Timing / abundance
- August, as East Kootenay rivers drop and clear — excellent terrestrial fishing; large trout feed on top .
- Best on breezy afternoons (wind puts insects on the water); fish tight to the bank.
- Note: St. Mary Angler reports also flag ant feeds as a productive event .

- Foam hoppers (e.g. Chubby Chernobyl), ant and beetle patterns; Chernobyl Ant doubles as a stonefly/hopper.

- Bank-side on Goat River, Moyie River, and East Kootenay freestone rivers.
